The capital of the island, Apollonia, named after the god Apollo, with itsalleys full of many small shops with jewelry, textiles and ceramics but alsogalleries, cafes and restaurants. Visit “Rampaga”, a wonderful multi-purpose space, sit in “Feggaropsaro” to taste Mastelo (local baby goat withwine baked in a ceramic dish) and chickpea meatballs.
The beaches of Sifnos are for all tastes! Platis Gialos, the cosmopolitanbeach of the island for swimming and water sports. Breakfast with Loli(sweet pumpkin pie) at “Notos” and then at Bola beach bar with music,nice coffee and cocktails. In Glyfos or Faros, you will swim overlooking thestunning Monastery of Chrysopigi, the most beautiful church in Greece,where any girl who visits the island wants to get married. Then, snacks at“Lychnos” or “Gorgona”. In Fasolou, even if you do not want to swim, youmust go for the shrimp-spaghetti of “Dimitris”. It is no coincidence thatboats and sailboats drop anchor in the bay just for that! You shoulddefinitely eat fish at the beautiful beach of the settlement of Herronisos.When you go down towards Chrysopigi, on your left is Apokofto, on therocks around the church and on the right of the church are Saoures,small quiet beaches. In Vathi with the turquoise waters, you will enjoywater sports and diving and then you will have your meal by the seaside,at Tsikali. Meat, fish and traditional chickpea soup, in a unique spot by thesea. In Kamares, lie on the sand, listen to music and watch people partyingat the two beach bars of the beach, “Isalos” and “Follie”.
To get better acquainted with Sifnos, you can go cycling (mountain ortrekking) or hiking on an extensive network of trails, in 4 fields with 70routes. Alternatively, you can go horseback riding and if you do not knowhow to ride, you can take lessons. All the Pottery Workshops of Sifnosare open to visit them and see the local potters creating their artifacts.
Take an afternoon walk in the Castle. It’s the ideal time to walk throughthis impressive medieval village with the Venetian architecture andbeautiful houses, joined by small bridges. Walk it over, until you reach thepoint overlooking “Eptamartyres”. It is worth visiting the MycenaeanAcropolis of Aghios Andreas, an important archeological site of Sifnos.Artemonas is a true gem. Take photos in front of the beautiful mansionsand churches, enjoy local gourmet cuisine at “Perivoli” and finish your walkwith a desert, at “Kitrino Podilato”.
The famous “Strait of Apollonia” is the center of the island's nightlife. At“Argo”, the oldest bar of the island, you can have fun and at "Bozi" you willhave the last drink of the night. There are concerts, nights with localdances and music, theater performances, art exhibitions, organized in theisland. And of course, Festivals! Too many Festivals! From May toSeptember, the biggest of all being the one of Panagia Chrysopigi. InSeptember, the famous Cycladic Gastronomy Festival "NikolaosTselementes" takes place at Artemonas, with local dishes that you can tryfor free.
A few hours or days on the island will prove to you that what willmake you miss Sifnos, is its hidden beauties. Leaving the island,don’t forget to take thyme honey, capers and Sifnos’ nougats,together with your memories!
